How I Lost Over 180 Pounds
by Chris Brown                                                            view article in larger print

Dear Greg,

Today is the first day that I am putting my thoughts and feelings down on paper.  In the past year I have lost over 180 pounds.  I started out at over 400 pounds, when my mother-in-law persuaded me to go with her to see you.  It absolutely changed my life.  I will try to put into words just how, in hope that it will inspire those who are on the fence about being hypnotized.

When I was heavy...
I felt very alone and very insecure about everything.
I am sure that it didn't always show, I put up a tough front.  I was basically trapped in this huge body.  I couldn't do much physically, without problems.  I honestly felt that I would die that way.  I chose to be cremated, saving my family the embarrassment of trying to find a casket big enough.  Since losing the weight, I still prefer to be cremated, but for different reasons now.

I had tried so many times to lose weight, some with small successes, most without.
Working out was out of the question, I always felt like I was a step away from a stroke.  I feel bad about the events and activities that I didn't go to because of my weight.  I missed school events and programs with my children and grandchildren.  I feel that I have lost some valuable years.  I missed a wonderful family vacation to Hawaii with my in-laws; I said I had to stay home because of my business, but it was because I knew I couldn't fit into the airplane seat.  I also didn't want to have to sit on the beach, fully dressed.  So my whole family went and had a great time and I missed out.

My family didn't say much about my weight, what could they say?
Except my husband, he would try to be nice and just mention suggestions, then other times he would be mad.  I'm sure that it wasn't easy for him either, watching me get bigger and bigger and not being able to help.  I really don't remember when it happened, I mean it just creeps up on you and next thing you know it's out of hand.

I lived in my own little world, avoiding friends and family.
In my world you didn't see the stares and looks from others around you.  I remember always walking in public with my head down, so as not to see anyone's facial expressions.  You would be surprised at how heavier people are ignored.  I experienced that quite often.  I would be overlooked at the counter or standing in line.  Sometimes I would think that I was just being paranoid, then my husband would tell me that people would look back as I walked by and motion for the person with them to look too.

Finding clothing was a chore also.
I used to buy most of my stuff on the Internet, from the plus size shops.  The clothes in town only went to a 4X.  I was a 6X.  Tops would be too short, so I was constantly pulling them down or trying to stretch them out.  When I laundered them, most of the time I couldn't wear them again, they were too small.  I think sometimes, now that I am smaller, I should design clothing for the heavier people because I understand what they need.

Now it's really cool...
when someone who knows me doesn't recognize me.
They are so shocked.  And I just smile, then tell them about being hypnotized.  Everyone wants to know how much I am going to lose, when I'm not even sure of that answer yet.

My biggest accomplishment through losing weight has been FREEDOM.
I have so much freedom now; I can walk forever, I shop until most would drop, I run around all of the time now.  I used to pay my daughter to clean my house, I save that money now.  Not really, I spend it on clothes, nails, hair, and whatever else I want.  The money that I spent on fast food alone will get me a nice vacation.

The day that I got hypnotized I knew it would work
I no longer crave sweets, snacks, baked goods or anything like that.  When I listen to your tape I feel so energized.  You've got to feel great when the self-hypnosis tape consists of only positive reinforcements and suggestions.

I love working out now; I have made some new friends.
I go at 5:30 in the morning.  I figure that I really can't come up with a good enough reason not to go at that hour...what could be more important?

I feel so good now.
If someone would have told me last year at this time that I would be counting calories and working out, I would have fallen out of my chair.  I am in such a better mood on the days that I work out.  Exercise means more FREEDOM.

It is almost a year later and I feel as strong today as I did the day I walked out of your office.
I listen to people carry on about how they don't believe in hypnosis, well I am here as living proof that it works!  At least it did for me...and it still is!  It is a point of personal power, and I love that POWER.

Thank you for helping me change my life.

Sincerely,

Chris Brown

UPDATE

Hi Greg & Gerri,

I just wanted to take a minute to say hi and express my gratitude for your helping me change my life.  It will be two years since my first session.  To date, I have lost 230 pounds and feel wonderful.

Even though I put on a few pounds over the holidays, I didn't get discouraged and have since lost them.   I still listen to my tape when I need to.  Recently, I went to a fancy wedding and wore a dress that I wouldn't have even considered before.  It was just great.

More great news, I am now an instructor at a women's fitness center; I am so thrilled!  It isn't about the money, but the chance to help others.

I am on to new adventures and living life to the very fullest.

Take care.

Chris Brown
